Challenge

The sensor cap needed to hold more storage solution around the fragile glass sensor, provide protection during storage, and remain easy to install and remove.

02

Approach

I redesigned the cap in flexible silicone with a larger internal reservoir, a fitted opening, and exterior ribs for grip, retaining the existing meter body and controls.

03

Outcome

The redesign brings solution storage and sensor protection into one removable component. Refined studio renders and floating concept studies make the cap geometry, fit, and material intent easier to inspect.

A focused product refinement

This project centers on the sensor cap of HM Digital’s PH-80 handheld pH and temperature meter. The cap combines space for storage solution with a flexible protective enclosure around the glass sensor. Exterior ribs provide a grip for fitting and removing it from the meter body.

Form, fit, and material

The translucent amber cap makes its depth and internal volume visible against the satin white housing. The fitted opening follows the body profile, while the ribbed grip and rounded rim give the removable component a clear physical identity.

Refined views and floating studies

The updated studio views show the assembled product, interface, and cap details. Floating compositions and selective-focus close-ups explore the same design through light, translucency, and surface transitions.
